Mainsails
Rogue could just build you a new version of the mainsail you already have... but we don't!
At Rogue we are all about lifting the performance of your boat, whether it's a racer or cruiser. We will talk to you about any existing sail and what you like or don't like about it and what changes we would recommend.
Key factors we will discuss before designing and building a new sail include:
Intended use
This impacts on design and fabric selection. A offshore cruiser will need a heavier stronger sail than a harbour racer and a shorthanded boat needs to ensure sails can be managed and handled easily
Fabric
There are many options from dacron to laminated membrains each with varied characteristics. We will discuss the pros and cons of each option in regards to weight, shapeholding, lifespan (both shapeholding and ultimate), cost and performance. Click HERE to read Josh's article on fabrics
Shape / Size / Profile
We will look at how we can optimise and improve the shape size and profile of the sail. Are you subject to class rules or IRC rules? Is the boat underpowered? Can we add roach? Is a squaretop an option? We even have innovative solutions giving a positive roach to cruisers with in-mast furling!
Battens
Battens can make a massive difference to performance through sailshape and can also increase the durability of a sail. Battens can also help sailhandling.
Luff systems
Boltrope, Slugs or Batt Cars? They all have their place. We even have systems to enable flaking squaretop mainsails without removing the top (Gaff) batten ensuring ease of use. There have been many advances in this space over recent years and Rogue can talk you through the benefits of potential upgrades.
Reefing Systems
Slab reefing, single line reefing, in-boom or in-mast furling. Rogue can advise on systems and tips and tricks to ensure everything runs smoothly
Budget
We will discuss options in relation to performance, initial cost and lifespan to ensure you get great value from your sail.
